The Corpse in the Cocktail
Ontario Cold Cases - Canada’s True Crime Podcast fictional episode of Whodunnit Wednesday’s.
Go back to the Golden Era of detective fiction and enjoy stories in the tradition of the greats of writing. From Agatha Christie to Raymond Chandler to John Creasey, these are short stories I hope you enjoy.
John J. Malone was nursing a gin and tonic at the Club Royale. He’d barely taken his first sip when Helene Brand stormed in, all perfume and panic.
“Malone, you’ve got to help me,” she said. “It’s Roger.” Roger Fairfax, the millionaire playboy and Helene’s off-and-on fiancé, had been in the papers more often than not. “He’s dead!’”
“I threw a little gathering last night—just a few close friends, nothing out of the ordinary. Roger was supposed to come, but he never showed. Or at least, I didn’t think he did. I went to bed around midnight. This morning, I found him… slumped over in the cocktail lounge. Dead. There was a half-empty martini glass in his hand, and he looked like he’d been there all night.”
