The Chilling Case of Margaret Sheeler: A Snowstorm, a Murder, and a Townhouse in Turmoil
On a frigid December evening in 1963, the quiet streets of London, Ontario, were blanketed in snow—and shrouded in mystery. Twenty-year-old Margaret Sheeler, a glowing mother-to-be and newlywed, vanished without a trace from her pristine townhouse on the Bridle Path. What should have been a night of hosting friends became a night of growing suspicion.
Her husband, Philip, offered a bizarre explanation: she’d stormed out after an argument, into the snowstorm, without a coat or a car. But when Margaret’s frozen, brutally murdered body was discovered a month later—staged in a nearby vacant lot—the cracks in his story became impossible to ignore.
How could a young, pregnant woman disappear so close to home? Who staged her crime scene so meticulously to mislead investigators? And why, sixty years later, has no one been held accountable for her death?
In The Chilling Case of Margaret Sheeler, Ontario Cold Cases - Canada’s True Crime Podcast reopens the file on this haunting mystery. With investigative failures, suspicious behavior, and a disturbing pattern of staged crime scenes, Margaret’s murder became a blueprint for a string of killings that would plague the region for years.
Was her death the result of a jealous ex, a hard-drinking husband, or something far more sinister?

What if it wasn’t really suicide?
Hello, I’m Jay Nicoll of Nicoll Investigation and this is Ontario Cold Cases - Canada’s True Crime Podcast.
Imagine this: a promising young man, John Connelly, 22 years old, with a glowing future ahead of him. A third-year pharmacy student at the University of Toronto, he was not just academically driven but also an accomplished athlete—former co-captain of the hockey team at Ottawa’s elite Ashbury College and recipient of its top award for athletics and academics. Then, on a frigid December morning in 2001, John’s lifeless body was found sprawled on the icy pavement outside his 10-storey apartment on Toronto’s Walmer Road.
At first glance, the scene whispered “suicide.” But not to his parents.
John was found face-up, broken but oddly composed. His gloves were snugly on, his jacket zipped to the neck, and a toque covered his head. Except... John never wore gloves. He never zipped his jacket. And that toque? Not even a winter hat—it was a head cover from his golf club set, a peculiar accessory he’d never think to wear.
The details screamed something was off. The Connelly’s couldn’t ignore the glaring inconsistencies, especially the deep bruise on his forehead. Forensic experts would later confirm that the injury couldn’t have been caused by the fall alone. His parents were convinced of a darker truth: John was attacked in his apartment, knocked unconscious, and staged to look like he had jumped—or worse, fallen—from the rooftop.
The question that haunts them, and anyone who looks closely, remains: if the scene was so meticulously crafted, who was behind it, and why? The answers, it seems, lie somewhere in the chilling gap between perception and reality—a gap wide enough to swallow the truth whole.

Ontario Cold Cases - Canada's True Crime Podcast: New Episode Premieres Sunday, December 8
"What if it wasn’t really suicide?"
This week, Ontario Cold Cases dives into the puzzling death of 22-year-old John Connelly—a promising University of Toronto pharmacy student and former co-captain of Ashbury College's hockey team. Accomplished, athletic, and driven, John was found lifeless on December 9, 2001, in the parking lot outside his 10-story apartment on Walmer Road, Toronto.
The official conclusion: suicide. But for his parents, the evidence never added up.
John was discovered wearing gloves, a zipped-up jacket, and a "toque" that turned out to be a golf club head cover—completely out of character, according to his family and friends. They insist he never wore gloves, never zipped his jacket, and certainly wouldn’t have mistaken a head cover for a hat.
More troubling is the large bruise on John’s forehead—a detail experts say couldn't have been caused by a fall from the roof. His parents believe John was attacked in his apartment, knocked unconscious, and later staged on the rooftop before being dumped.
With fresh insights into how false evidence can mislead investigators, this episode asks: what really happened to John Connelly? Was his death a tragic oversight or something far more sinister?
Join us this Sunday for an in-depth look at this haunting case, only on Ontario Cold Cases - Canada's True Crime Podcast.

Serial killer 'Jack the Stripper' bore chilling similarities with his Victorian namesake
Join us on Ontario Cold Cold Cases - Canada’s True Crime Podcast for Part 2 of Jack the Stripper, as we delve into the harrowing investigation into one of England’s most elusive serial killers. Between 1959 and 1965, a shadowy figure prowled the streets of West London, claiming the lives of eight women in a string of murders that left investigators scrambling for answers. The victims—sex workers, all small of stature—were strangled in the dead of night, their bodies discarded like grim warnings. The unsettling detail of missing front teeth only deepened the horror.
The killer, ominously dubbed “Jack the Stripper” by the press, left a trail eerily reminiscent of his Victorian counterpart, Jack the Ripper.
Now, six decades later, the case stands as a haunting reminder of justice undone. Tune in to Ontario Cold Cases - Canada’s True Crime Podcast as we unravel the investigation, explore the lives of those accused, and examine the disturbing legacy of one of London’s most notorious unsolved cases.
