Commander George Gideon of Scotland Yard had seen more than his fair share of horrors. After twenty-five years on the force, he had developed a sixth sense for trouble—a sense that tingled now as he gazed out the window of his office in New Scotland Yard. 
“Sir, this is Inspector Lemaitre. We’ve had a report of a body found in Mayfair. It’s a strange one, sir.”
Gideon’s eyes narrowed. “What do you mean by ‘strange,’ Inspector?”
“The body was found in a locked room. No sign of forced entry. And the victim was frozen in an expression of abject terror. His skin had a strange, silvery hue, as if drained of blood and life.”

Yet, because these victims were all homeless people, few have heard of these crimes and in the beginning, media coverage was sparse. On August 29, 1994, Angela Arseneault was reported missing by her common law spouse. She was last seen on August 19, 1994, in Burnaby, BC, when they and another male went shopping. 
Pamela Asprey
On November 12, 1984, Pamela Asprey was last seen getting into a vehicle near the National War Memorial in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

The phone rang as I was pouring my second cup of coffee. It was a quiet morning, the kind where the air feels thick with memories you can’t quite place. I set the cup down and picked up the receiver.
“Archer? This is a friend of Harry Caldwell’s.”
I hadn’t heard that name in years. The last time I saw Harry, he was wearing a tux and a broken smile at some charity ball for men whose pockets were already lined with gold. That was before he disappeared from my life, and from Los Angeles, as far as I knew.
“What’s on your mind?” I asked.
There was a pause, then the voice on the other end softened. “Harry’s gone missing. I need you to find him.”
“People like Harry don’t just disappear,” I said, trying to gauge how much truth there was to this claim. “They slip away quietly, making sure no one follows.”
“He didn’t slip away. He was taken.”
That changed things.
