Vanished in the Night: The Unsolved Murder of Debbie Silverman
In the pre-dawn hours of August 12, 1978, 21-year-old Debbie Silverman stepped into the hallway of her Toronto apartment building—and vanished. A vibrant young woman with a love for disco, exotic perfumes, and dreams as big as her heart, Debbie was snatched in a violent ambush, her purse and broken gold necklace left scattered as haunting clues. Three months later, her body was found in a shallow grave 80 km away, bound and shot, in a desolate Sunderland field. Her killer remains a shadow, uncaught, unchained.
Was it a predatory serial killer like Clifford Olson, who taunted authorities with cryptic claims? Or the fugitive duo, Darryl Dollan and Daryle Newstead, prowling Toronto’s streets that same night? Could it have been someone closer—a jealous acquaintance from her double date, or a stranger who knew exactly when she’d return? With no DNA evidence and a trail gone cold, the Toronto and Ontario Provincial Police chase whispers of a connection to other missing women, like Alison Thomas and Claire Samson. Every lead, every theory, brings Debbie’s grieving mother, Carol, closer to the truth—or deeper into despair.

The Unsolved Tragedy of Lizzie Tomlinson
A Chilling Mystery That Grips the Heart of Toronto
In the spring of 1980, 6-year-old Lizzie Tomlinson vanished from “Stinky’s Park,” a seemingly safe haven in Toronto’s east end. Lured away by a bearded stranger with piercing blue eyes, the shy young girl’s fate was sealed in a brutal act of violence. Two days later, her body was discovered in a desolate industrial wasteland, defiled in a manner so horrific it shocked a city and sparked cries for justice. A single cigarette butt and conflicting witness accounts are all that remain of a killer who walked away, leaving a trail of unanswered questions.
Was it the quiet cousin, accused but cleared? A serial predator linked to other chilling crimes? Or a shadowy figure from a troubled past, whose own child now suspects the unthinkable? As the investigation unraveled, a psychiatric profile painted a portrait of a sadistic loner hiding in plain sight—possibly among those questioned and released. Decades later, the case remains a haunting enigma, with whispers of DNA evidence that could still unlock the truth.

A Chilling Look at the Lyle Ford Case
The Unsolved Murders of Toronto’s Sex Trade Workers: A Mystery Awaits in Toronto’s Darkest Corners
In the gritty streets of 1980s and 1990s Toronto, a shadow hunted the vulnerable. Five sex trade workers, their lives snuffed out by strangulation, their bodies moved under the cover of night. Were these brutal murders the work of a single, cunning serial killer? Ontario Cold Cases - Canada's True Crime Podcast unravels the haunting case of Lyle Ford and four others in a gripping episode that will leave you questioning: who was the predator stalking Toronto’s underbelly?
Lyle Ford’s body was found on a crisp September morning in 1990, discarded in Crombie Park. Strangled, sexually assaulted, and marked by chilling bite wounds, her story is one of tragedy and unanswered questions. DNA evidence failed to crack the case, leaving investigators grasping at shadows. Could convicted killer Gregory George Ashford, whose chilling diary confessed, “Killing didn’t seem so wrong,” be the key? Or does Daniel Harvey Atkinson, a predator linked to multiple assaults, hold the answers? With FBI profiler John Douglas pointing to a pattern of weekend killings, the truth may be more sinister than anyone imagined.
Dive into the heart-pounding details, from Ashford’s cross-country murder spree to Atkinson’s menacing green pickup truck, flagged by those who knew the streets best. This episode of Ontario Cold Cases pulls no punches, exploring every clue, theory, and haunting possibility.

The Unsolved Murders of Lori Pinkus and Toronto’s Sex Trade Workers
Unraveled Secrets in the Shadows of Toronto
In the dark streets of Toronto, a sinister pattern emerged from the mid-1980s to the late 1990s: five sex trade workers, including Lori Pinkus, brutally strangled and left in chilling scenes far from where they were last seen. Were these murders the work of a single predator stalking the city’s most vulnerable? Ontario Cold Cases - Canada’s True Crime Podcast dives deep into these haunting mysteries, unearthing clues that could finally crack these decades-old cases.
Lori Pinkus, a young woman fleeing a troubled past, met a tragic end behind Brockton High School in 1991. Her final words to her mother—“If I die, will you bury me?”—echo as a heartbreaking plea. Now, a breakthrough male DNA profile offers hope for justice, but the killer’s identity remains elusive. Could it be Gregory George Ashford, a convicted murderer whose chilling diary confessed an urge to kill again? Or Daniel Harvey Atkinson, a predator linked to violent assaults on sex workers? As FBI expert John Douglas reveals, the weekend timing of these crimes points to a serial killer lurking in Toronto’s shadows.

Three women. Three decades. One invisible killer.
For more than forty years, the murders of Christine Prince, Claire Samson, and Gracelyn Greenidge haunted Toronto: separate lives, separate eras, the same unseen predator. No connections. No suspects. Only the same trace of DNA that refused to speak until science finally caught up.
In December 2025, Toronto Police and the OPP stood before the families and the city to deliver a name no one had ever whispered in these investigations: Kenneth Smith, a man who took his secrets to the grave in 2019.
This is the definitive account of three forgotten women, the random crimes that stole their futures, and the quiet revolution in forensic genealogy that refused to let a dead man escape justice forever.
Some cases don’t need a trial to be closed; they only need the truth.
Here it is.

The Murder of Donna Oglive – A Cold Case Breakthrough
A Cold Case Cracked. A Killer Caught. The Truth Unearthed.
In the gritty streets of 1998 Toronto, 24-year-old Donna Oglive—a sharp, street-smart mother pregnant with her second child—was found strangled in a desolate parking lot, her body chillingly posed. Her murder joined a string of unsolved killings haunting the city’s sex trade workers, each case a whisper of a possible serial predator lurking in the shadows. For over two decades, Donna’s death remained a mystery, her killer slipping through the cracks of justice—until now.
On a fateful night in 2025, a stunning breakthrough: Ronald Ackerman, a 50-year-old trucker, is arrested at Pearson International Airport, his identity unraveled by the relentless power of genetic genealogy. A relative’s DNA led cold case detectives to a man who was never on their radar, exposing a killer hiding in plain sight. But was Donna’s death a lone tragedy, or part of a darker pattern tied to the 30 unsolved murders of Toronto’s most vulnerable?
Ontario Cold Cases: Canada’s True Crime Podcast dives deep into Donna’s story and the forgotten victims like her, from the 1985 shooting of Lorelei Brose to the brutal 1997 slayings of Therese Melanson and Florence Harrison. With DNA evidence fueling hope in 42 unsolved homicides, the truth is closer than ever—but the clock is ticking.

The Tragic Case of Susan Siegel and a Potential Serial Killer
A City Stalked by Shadows. A Killer Still at Large.
In the gritty underbelly of 1980s Toronto, a predator hunted the vulnerable. Susan Siegel, a 20-year-old sex trade worker, vanished into the night of December 16, 1984, only to be found strangled and abandoned by desolate railroad tracks. Her murder, chillingly similar to four others, remains unsolved—haunting clues pointing to a young man in a small truck, a $50,000 reward, and no answers. Was Susan’s death the work of a lone killer, or part of a sinister pattern that claimed multiple lives?
Ontario Cold Cases - Canada’s True Crime Podcast rips open the files on Susan’s case and four other strangulation murders, uncovering eerie connections.
