Vanished Without a Trace: The Mysterious Disappearance of Wendy Smith
It was supposed to be a new beginning. On April 13, 1995, Wendy Renee Smith was heading to her first shift at a new job. She never arrived. Police believe she was murdered, but for nearly 30 years, her case has remained a cold, silent mystery.
A mother of four who had faced a life of struggle, Wendy's disappearance left her family shattered and full of questions. Did she ever make it to the Fantasia Hotel in Richmond Hill? Or was her final night a meticulously crafted lie?
The trail of suspects leads to unsettling places: a "caring man" with a story that doesn't add up, and even one of Canada's most infamous serial killers, Robert Pickton. With two other unidentified suspects who failed polygraph tests, the truth seems to be hiding in plain sight.

Unraveling a 40-Year Mystery: The Donna Awcock Case
Forty years ago, a brutal murder shook the community of London, Ontario. On October 13, 1983, 17-year-old Donna Jean Awcock—a vibrant teen who loved to babysit and play baseball—was found murdered. The case has remained unsolved, but her older sister, Tammy Dennett, is determined to find answers and bring her sister's killer to justice.
Donna was last seen after babysitting a neighbor’s children. She had gone to a nearby store for cigarettes, where the clerk noted she seemed nervous. Tragically, she never made it home. Hours later, a search party found her body on an embankment near Fanshawe Dam, just two kilometers from her home. She had been raped and strangled.
For decades, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have pursued tips and interviewed witnesses, yet the case remains open. The family believes someone out there holds a crucial piece of information that could finally solve the case. This is a story of a family's relentless pursuit of justice, filled with strange inconsistencies and missed opportunities.
In the episode of the Ontario Cold Cases podcast, we dive deep into the night everything changed for the Awcock family. We'll explore the complex and often baffling details of the investigation, including a mysterious "mash-up" composite sketch, a most-wanted fugitive who lived across the hall, and troubling questions about the integrity of Canada's DNA database.
Don't miss a single detail—be sure to subscribe to the Ontario Cold Cases - Canada's True Crime Podcast wherever you listen to podcasts. That way, you'll get new episodes as soon as they drop!
This case has left a legacy of pain, but also of hope. In her sister's memory, Tammy started a group called Donna's Angels, which helps a family in need each holiday season. It's a poignant reminder that even in the face of immense loss, compassion and community can shine through.
